The game

Mau Mau, but with push-ups.

BLUFF-FIT is a unique workout card game that lets you work on your body. With strong tactics and endurance, you’ll teach all your friends a lesson.

An active party game for friends, family, your sports team or a team outing. You don’t need any equipment: just the cards, a bit of space and the will to win.

Every round you pick a training card for the player next to you. Then everyone takes turns playing BLUFF cards: double it, split it, pass it on or drag everybody down with you. Only when nobody wants to bluff anymore does the sweating start.

What does a game look like? Blood, sweat and a whole lot of tears. From laughing and from crying.

    1. Deal and draw

Every player gets 14 cards, the rest forms the deck. The least muscular player starts: they take 2 cards and put 1 card on the discard pile.

    2. Pick an exercise for your neighbour

Everyone picks 1 training card for the player next to them (clockwise). All cards are revealed at the same time. Do several players get the exact same card? Then those reps are doubled.

    3. Bluff

Player 1 plays a BLUFF card or passes the turn. In the first round, everyone is allowed to play a BLUFF card.

    4. Sweat

It goes round until someone can’t or won’t play another BLUFF card. Then everyone does their exercise, including all BLUFF effects.

    5. Collect stars

Played BLUFF cards go to the discard pile. You keep the training cards you completed: the stars are points. The next player draws and a new round begins.

1× 20 second breakEvery player may take one 20 second break per game and then carry on with the exercise.
    Winning

    Two ways to win.

    Way 1

    Make them give up

All your opponents have given up because they couldn’t finish their exercise, even after their one break.

Risky: hand someone a pile of hard cards and if they fight their way through, they might win on points.

    Way 2

    Play your last training card

When someone plays their last training card, the round is finished. BLUFF cards can still be played. Then the remaining players count their stars.

You can’t go out with a BLUFF card.

    Questions?

Everything about the fitness card game Bluff-Fit: how to play, what’s in the box and who it makes a great gift for.

    About the game

    What is Bluff-Fit?

Bluff-Fit is a fitness card game for 2 to 6 players aged 14 and up. It plays like the card game Mau Mau (known in the Netherlands as Pesten), but instead of making each other draw cards, you give each other exercises. With BLUFF cards you double, split or pass those exercises on.

The box contains 124 cards: 95 training cards in 20 kinds and 29 BLUFF cards in 7 kinds, plus a rulebook with a QR code to the explainer video.

Which exercises are in the game?

There are 20 exercises across five muscle groups:

    • Legs: squat, lunge, glute bridge and jump squat
    • Core: sit-up, bicycle crunch, leg raise and back extension
    • Chest: push-up, wide push-up, decline push-up and knee-elbow push-up
    • Arms: dip, walkout, shoulder push-up and diamond push-up
    • Cardio: jumping jack, plank, wall sit and burpee

Every card shows three rep counts, one for each level. For the plank and the wall sit, those are seconds.

What do the BLUFF cards do?

The 7 kinds of BLUFF cards make things harder on your opponents, or easier on yourself:

    • X2 Double: the reps of an exercise are doubled.
    • Split: the reps are cut in half, rounded up.
    • Pass: all exercises move one player on, clockwise.
    • Switch: swap your exercise for the top card of the deck.
    • Spectator: you sit out this round and watch.
    • Destiny Bond: everyone does your exercise, each at their own level.
    • Super Set: combine two exercises; whoever does them gets the points of both.
What do the stars mean and how do you score?

Stars are points. The harder the exercise, the more stars: from 2 stars for a squat or push-up up to 5 for a burpee or jump squat. You keep the training cards you completed. Cards still in your hand at the end cost points: −2 per training card and −4 per BLUFF card.

    Playing

Do I need to be fit to play?

No. Every player picks their own level: easy, normal or hard. That sets your number of reps per card, so a beginner can easily play against a gym rat. On easy, push-ups may be done on your knees.

How many players and what age is Bluff-Fit for?

2 to 6 players, aged 14 and up. With 1 to 3 players you take 2 cards per turn, with 4 to 6 players 3 cards. When 1 to 3 players are left, the rules for 1 to 3 players apply.

    Do I need any equipment?

No, you don’t need weights or other gear. Every exercise uses your own bodyweight. For dips and decline push-ups you use a chair or bench, and for the wall sit a wall. A little free space next to the table is enough.

    How do you win Bluff-Fit?

There are two ways. You win when all your opponents have given up because they couldn’t finish their exercise. Or someone plays their last training card: the round is then finished and the player with the most stars wins.

What happens if I can’t finish an exercise?

You get one 20 second break per game. If you still can’t finish the exercise after that, you give up. The last player standing wins.

Is Bluff-Fit a good active game for groups and team outings?

Yes. Bluff-Fit works as an active game for adults at a birthday, with your sports team or during a team outing. Each game is for up to 6 players. With a bigger group you can play at several tables at once.

Can I use the cards as a home workout?

Yes. With two players you get a full home workout, as legs, core, chest, arms and cardio all come up. Rather train alone? Draw a few cards and do the exercises at your own level, just like Draw a card on this page.
